English as a Second Language

CSEA offers beginner, intermediate and advanced ESL Classes to help learners of all backgrounds become proficient in the English language. Initially, students are assessed to gauge their English communication and comprehension skills. Students are then placed in the appropriate level ESL class. Our classes run in trimesters, (4) times a week, during daytime and evening hours. ESL classes are offered year round. Please contact our office or come fill out an application to join our classes.

CSEA's Free Homemaker Training Program

Picture
CSEA is now officially registered through the RI Department of Health as a Homemaker Training Site. We offer résumé help and job placement aid to the Homemaker Training participants. Students get interviews for positions with Ocean State Home Health. The Homemaker Training program will be one track of training programs offered through our Real Jobs training program. We hope our Homemakers trainees may eventually want to become Certified Nursing Assistants and possibly even pursue a career as an Licensed Practical Nurse.

Next Homemaker classes begin:
December 5th-December 15th, 2022 (Monday through Thursday: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm)
January 23rd- February 2nd, 2023 (Monday through Thursday: 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm)

Unemployment and underemployment are common challenges for those with limited education and language skills. This is especially true of the marginalized Southeast Asian population who often can only find employment in low-paying or unreported jobs. CSEA has just been approved as a Real Jobs Partner by the RI Department of Labor and will help refer, train, and place clients in several upward mobility career paths. CSEA's program will ensure that clients have the math and language skills necessary to enter living wage job training programs . Our partnership will include working with Polaris MEP to help clients attain good manufacturing jobs such as CNC machinist, welder, and industrial sewing. CSEA will also partner with Hope & Main to develop skills in food preparation and restaurant entrepreneurship. In addition, CSEA will offer Homemakers classes, and eventually CNA classes, possibly leading to careers such as LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) to help serve the community in culturally sensitive and language specific ways.
